The study of social dynamical structures in communication networks can be studied using a variety of methods and approaches. The 2009 edition of the Complexity Sciences Winter School aims to provide an overview of the interdisciplinary approach to the study of social dynamics and communications networks. The Winter School brings together researchers to report on progress in the study of social networks\, computer networks and multi-agent based social simulation. While computer network approaches concern mainly the hardware and software design of networks\, social network theory permits network analysis and employs tools and insights from the social sciences. Multi-agent based social simulation provides tools for model design\, hypotheses testing and validation.

It focuses on the models and ideas that participants are currently work on. Participants will get expert advice from the course instructors as well as other modellers on the course. According to demand\, the course may also cover proposal writing\, shaping research questions to data and field\, and tips for the academic publication of simulation-based research.
Participants are expected to submit a summary (100 – 200 words) of their research topic and/or models to Lu Yang (lu.yang@surrey.ac.uk) by 14 January 2009. The model can be tentative\, although nearly complete models are also welcome.
