EPSRC Care Life Cycle Research Programme University of Southampton - School of Social Sciences
£27,319 to £31,671 per annum
The University of Southampton has recently been awarded over £3million by the EPSRC under its 'Complexity Science in the Real World' initiative to carry out research on the 'Care Life Cycle: Responding to the Health and Social Care Needs of an Ageing Society'.
The research programme aims to bring together a world class interdisciplinary team to develop a novel suite of models of the socio-economic processes and organisations involved in the UK's health and social care system in order to inform the design of future policy. The research team combines internationally leading social scientists with researchers in complex systems simulation, drawing on the expertise of four of the University's leading international research centres:
- Centre for Research on Ageing,
- ERSC Centre for Population Change,
- Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems and
- Institute for Complex Systems Simulation.
You will work alongside 3 other Research Fellows (see: http://www.jobs.ac.uk/cgi-bin/search.cgi?keywords=Care+Life+Cycle&x=51&y=25) to undertake research (Complex Systems Simulation) as part of an exciting new multi-disciplinary research programme; the EPSRC Care Life Cycle Research Programme. You will Conceive, design, develop, implement, and analyse simulation models using a range of modelling approaches and carry out research in collaboration with the investigators and the rest of the research team.
You will have a PhD (or near completion) in Computer Science, Informatics or similar analytical discipline, using simulation modelling and possess experience of applying complex systems ideas and simulation modelling in a social science context (ideally health and/or social care). You will be able to work independently and engage with external partners and project team members and communicate clearly with an appetite for working in an interdisciplinary cross-university team.
These posts are available on a fixed term basis for 4 years and will be based in the School of Social Sciences on the main Southampton University campus at Highfield. Travel within the UK to attend meetings and conferences will be required.
If you wish to make informal enquiries about the post, please contact Professor Sally Brailsford, Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems S.C.Brailsford@soton.ac.uk or Dr Seth Bullock, Director, Institute for Complex Systems Simulation sgb@ecs.soton.ac.uk.
