7. Foraging and Population Dynamics
In this chapter we will discuss models where agents interact with their environment. The agents need to have resources to survive. They will explore the environment to collect those resources. The resource availability is limited and can regenerate at a modest pace. Hence there is the challenge for the agents not to overharvest the resources to sustain their own future.
Although the model presented in this chapter is rather abstract, it addresses a number of broader questions we see in a number of disciplines such as biology, ecology and economics. How to derive sustainable development? The evolution of species in different environments?
